About The Program
Judaic Studies is an interdisciplinary program offered in the College of Arts and Humanities with the cooperation of the Departments of English, Foreign Languages, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology, and the Liberal Studies, Women's Studies, Area Studies programs, Religious Studies, Humanities and Middle East Studies Minors.
The Judaic Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary Minor in Judaic Studies and a Certificate in Judaic Studies. The program enables students to acquire a foundation of knowledge of Jewish history; the Hebrew language; Jewish philosophy, culture, religious beliefs, and political aspirations; and to understand the contribution of Judaism to western civilization. The courses incorporated highlight major aspects of Jewish civilization, focusing on its interaction with other cultures and on the bodies of human knowledge upon which it draws. The program is designed to serve students pursuing careers in general or Jewish education, international and Middle Eastern affairs, languages or liberal arts, ministry or rabbinate, and in communal works at large.
