Statement of Purpose

The Judaic Studies Program at UCF aims to enhance Judaic knowledge, scholarship, and awareness in the Central Florida area. The program advises students, faculty, administration, educational and cultural institutions and organizations, area colleges, and the community at large, in matters relating to Judaic scholarship.

The program aims to offer instruction, conduct research, and disseminate knowledge in the civilization of the Jewish people, from biblical times to the present day, in the major dimensions of its creative and intellectual pursuits: literature, language, religion, philosophy, law, social, political, and economic organization.

Judaic Studies forms an essential component of the university curriculum because the roots of western culture, civilization, and major world religions lie in ancient Jewish thought and practice, as manifested in the Hebrew Bible and subsequent writings.
