Leonard S. Levin: “Why God Is Subject to Murphy’s Law”

On November 10, Judaic Studies will host a lecture by Leonard S. Levin on Why God Is Subject to Murphy's Law at the Central Florida Hillel at 1:30p.m. The event is part of the Judaic Studies Distinguished Lecturers Series, in collaboration with Hillel.

Leonard Levin, Ph.D., is a Professor of Jewish Philosophy at the Academy for Jewish Religion in Riverdale. He was an Adjunct Lecturer and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Jewish Philosophy at Rutgers Univeristy, and has served as an Assistant Proffesor of Jewish Philosophy at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. While teaching, Levin has won the Bernard and Sydell Citron Scholastic Prize, the Solomon and Rose S. Lasdon Prize for creative scholarly achievement, the Herman and Mignon Rubenovitz Prize for Jewish theology, along with the Pnei Torah Faculty award for excellence in teaching.

Levin’s publications include Seeing With Both Eyes: Ephraim Luntshitz and the Polish-Jewish Renaissance (2008), Why God Is Subject To Murphy's Law: Dialogues in Jewish Theology (2007), Is the Halakhic Correctness of Conservative Judaism a Broken Myth? (2013), A Proposal for the Purification of All Jews (2012), and To Break or Mend A World: Thoughts on Theodicy after the Tsunami (2005).

The Judaic Studies Program, now in its 30th year at UCF, offers the Distinguished Lecturers Series to the UCF and Central Florida Community. This lecture is co-sponsored by Central Florida Hillel, open to the public, and is free of charge. Parking will be available at Central Florida Hillel at Northview, 3925 Lockwood Blvd. Oviedo, FL 32765.
